Matt Brown just a few weeks ago was trying to raise money to help pay for his father’s battle with cancer.

Sadly, Brown’s father lost the fight with the disease last week.

The former Ultimate Fighter contestant told MMA Madness, that the support he has gotten has been overwhelming and a little bit surprising.

He said he received countless amounts of e-mails on all fronts — Facebook, MySpace and personal — giving thoughts, prayers and donations.

He wishes he could personally thank everyone who sent him something.

“I can’t express how thankful I am for all the support [my family and I] have received,” Brown said.

He added that the support motivates him to give a good show for the fans in his upcoming bouts.

Brown had received a good amount of money from internet donations, but he is in the process of giving the money back to the people who donated because the money won’t be used for its intended purpose — to help pay for his father’s medical care.

He added that the money from the previous fundraising covered the cost of the previous expenses, and the funds raised via the Internet wouldn’t have been used for another two weeks.

Brown received the news of his father’s passing while he was up in Washington, beginning his training camp for his upcoming fight with James Wilkes at UFC 105 in Manchester, England on Nov. 14.

He flew back to Ohio to be with his family, and stated he’s already back in the gym and is expected restart his training camp sometime in the upcoming week with Matt Hume at AMC Pankration.

He said that training and being in the gym is helping him cope with the loss.

“I’m always in the gym, and I’m doing what my dad would want me to do,” Brown said.

Brown said he plans on continuing his role in promoting cancer awareness.
