Muhshin Corbbrey hasn’t seen his family in three months, and will see them soon. But first, he has a fight with Anthony Njokuani before he can see his wife and son.

Muhsin Corbbrey has plenty in his mind and in his heart when he enters the cage tonight at WEC 43.

He hasn’t seen his wife, Angela, or son, Zazir, in three months and even missed his son’s birthday while training for his fight with Anthony Njokuani.

Corbbrey admits that he misses his family, but said it has been all business during the time spent away from his family.

“I’ve ate, drank and slept MMA,” Corbbrey said. “I got up every morning and go to the gym. I don’t leave the gym until 11:30 at night, trying to hone the skills. … My wife and son know it’s to better things.”

When the fight comes to an end, he will go back to his wife and son and spend countless amounts of time with them.

“They’re definitely going to get time,” Corbbrey (13-3-1) said. “The wife has been the best support for me, and she definitely deserves some of my time. It’s a hard life to be a fighter.”

But his family isn’t the only one on his mind, as he has dedicated the fight to his training partner Scott Harper recently had brain surgery to remove internal bleeding.

Harper is making a full recovery and has already began competing, but Corbbrey is asking fans to donate to Harper’s cause to help offset the expensive cost of his medical bills.

Even with all this on his mind, Corbbrey is focused on the task at hand, and he knows that beating Njokuani in his WEC could put him in a position to move up in the lightweight rankings.

His last high-profile fight came nearly a year ago against Nick Diaz, as part of an EliteXC card.

He pushed Diaz to the third round, before finally being finished with strikes.

Corbbrey used the loss as a learning experience, and said he has kept active fighting.

“I learned that I belong with the best guys out there,” he said. “Nick went on to destroy two guys after that. I feel that I was in that fight. He came in way over weight, and I still gave everything he could handle. I’m even better now.”

Corbbrey has said that this training camp has been one of the more intense camps, as he continues to work on all aspects of MMA with Master Lloyd Irving.

Corbbrey has a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Irving, and is continually adding to his skill set.

“Master Lloyd has raised the bar and raised my level,” Corbbrey said. “I’m sharpening my sword and make sure my skills are [up to par.]”

He expects a war with Njokuani, who has won three of his last four fights and his only loss coming at the hands of main eventer Benson Henderson.

Corbbrey has 37 professional fights, spanning between MMA, muay thai and boxing bouts, and said he thinks that experience will be his advantage.

Regardless, Corbbrey wants to put on a show for the fans and WEC matchmakers.

“I definitely want to show my worth,” Corbbrey said.
