He wasn’t kidding.

Sources have confirmed to MMA Junkie that Fitch will take on Thiago Alves at UFC 107. Alves’ original opponent Paulo Thiago will be booked for another bout on the card.

The two originally met at Ultimate Fight Night 5, when both fighters were just starting out in the UFC. Fitch won that night with an upkick, followed up with punches, making Alves just one casualty in Fitch’s 15-fight win streak.

Alves is looking to bounce back from his UFC 100 loss to Georges St. Pierre.

should be a good tearup.i am glad to see strikeforce doing well, clearly more of a treat than affliction and elite xc were ever going to be and dream really ramping things up in the past 4 events brings the ufc to start stacking the main card with 5 top fight instead of 2.plus more ufc events to come,3 a month.i said this when strikeforce got all the elite xc contract’s,it’s been nothing but great since.i think there is room for these 3 companies to go at it for a while and we get the best of it.that strikeforce card coming up is just crazy.no-more bisping vs leben headling ppv’s for the ufc while strikeforce and dream are putting on good fights, they know they will lose fans.even though the ufc 102 fight card matches were great fights especially nog vs cotoure i dont think ufc will be headling a card with the 2 losers of the hw championship bouts again.

Everyone will still watch the ufc even if the main event is shitty. Dream can try but will never be as big or good as pride ever was

Ha, good to have you back Red I thought we lost you for good. Seriously though, when the organizations compete, who wins? The fans do. Now that Strikeforce has signed bigger-name talent and is stepping up its promotion, the UFC has to step up to. The UFC will still be dominant, but it knows that the hardcore fans will be attracted to Strikeforce’s new offerings. Still though, Strikeforce is fucking up in a lot of ways. There’s very little viable 205 talent out there right now, and Strikeforce has noticably failed to sign a lot of it. They got Sokoudjou and King Mo, but Mousasi will likely spank Soko, and King Mo ain’t ready for Mousasi. Not to mention that they have a lightwewight travesty and a heavyweight champion who clearly doesn’t give a shit and doesn’t wanna compete there. Now they sign Herschel Walker and Jeff Curran? Walker shouldn;t be fighting and if an athletic commission approves that I’ll laugh my ass off, and Since when has Strikeforce had any fights below 155? Let alone for a top fifteen bantamweight like Curran. They need to focus on building the divisions where they already have talent, 155, 170, 185, and 205. They need to say to Josh Thomspn, yu need to be healthy or lose the belt. They need to tell Nick Diaz, either sign to fight and take a drug test or fuck off so Hieron can actually catch a break. They need to match up Jacare with Robbie Lawler. They need to make the Mousasi-Sokoudjou fight for the belt. Why is this a non-title fight? It makes no sense. They need to not pass over guys like Ninja Rua, so what if he had two losses in a row, Jacare was coming off a brutal KO loss to Mousasi and a NC with Mayhem, not exactly much better. They need to say to Overeem “put up or give up the fuckin belt”, who cares if it’s cause of steroids or K1 or what, he’s the chamo and he has an obligation to continue to prove that. They have Fedor, they should have taken Overeem’s title away as soon as he backed out of the last fight because they now have the true HW champion of the world.

Sorry about that rant haha. Fitch/Alves should be a war. These guys are both big 170ers and very strong and skilled. Basically number 2 vs. number 3. I hope Alves worked some serious TD defense and clinch since the GSP fight. I mean, getting taken down by GSP is basically a different story thtan getting taken down by anybody else, but Fitch is nasty.

The rogers/fedor fight should be for a interm title then tell overeem he has to defend it or give it up

Rage I agree with U…Overeem is getting away with murder. I think the winner of the Fitch-Alves should get a rematch for the title after the next GSP fight…these 2 fighters are CLEARLY either the 2nd & 3rd best welterweights in the world
