Nate Diaz is rumored to fight Gray Maynard at UFN 20.
MMA Weekly is reporting that lightweights Gray Maynard may fight Nate Diaz at Ultimate Fight Night 20, tentatively scheduled for Jan. 11. The bout was confirmed to MMA Weekly by sources close to the bout, and was first announced on Cesar Gracie’s Web site, GracieFighter.com.
It would be a rematch of a semifinal bout on the fifth season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” where Diaz submitted Maynard to earn his spot in the finals.
Since then, the career paths of both have changed dramatically.
Maynard is unbeaten in his last seven bouts (6-0, 1NC), including victories against Frankie Edgar, Jim Miller and Roger Huerta. There is discussion that Maynard maybe next in line for a potential title shot.
Diaz, on the other hand, started off reeling off four consecutive victories after winning “The Ultimate Fighter,” but after back-to-back losses to Clay Guida and Joe Stevenson, Diaz’ momentum was slightly derailed. He recovered with a submission victory over Melvin Guillard at UFN 19
