Gegard Mousasi, who recently pulled out of the Super Hulk tournament in DREAM due to an injury, will take on Sokoujdou as part of the Nov. 7 Strikeforce on CBS card, MMA Junkie reported.
The two were supposed to meet in the Super Hulk semifinals at DREAM 11, but Mousasi suffered an injury during his high-profile sparring match with heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko at the M-1 Breakthrough show.
Mousasi’s popularity has skyrocketed in the past month, after he secured the Strikeforce light heavyweight title as part of the Aug. 15 Cyborg and Carano card.
Sokoujdou is coming off a quick destruction of Mousasi’s replacement Bob Sapp at DREAM 11. He is riding a two fight win streak.
MMA Junkie is also reporting that Marloes Coenen and Erin Toughill are slated to fight on the card as a reserve bout, if one of the original planned CBS main card matches fall through. It would be a rematch of their 2004 tilt, where Toughill knocked out Coenen, handing Coenen her first loss.
The winner of the rumored bout would put themselves in prime position to fight 145-pound women’s champion Cyborg Santos, who is sidelined due to an injury suffered at the recent ADCC.

Gegard Mousasi ready to see you fight bra
Okay, the count down begins now. By that I mean the countdown until Mousasi fight one of the few arguably competitive 205ers outide of the UFC right now. If he beats Sokoudjou, and I think he will, it’ll be interesting to see what he does next. I understand why he didn;t sign with the UFC, he’s only 24, has plenty of time to improve, and I think he said he’d like to fight K1 rules a few more times. This way he can spend a few years honing his game, which is already nasty, and when the time is right, he’ll hit up the UFC and be the best he can be, and more expericnced as well.
Anyway, I think he can probably outstrike Sokoudjou and outgrapple him. If he gets Sokoudjou on his back, I think that’ll be the end right there, if he can finish Babalu the way he did, I don;t think he’ll have much trouble doing it to this guy too.
he wants to be carefull sokodju dont carry on punching him after the match,he gets abit carried away recently
Agreed Daley, Sokoudjou went wildman on Nortjie and Sapp. I don’t think there’s much he can do to Mousasi though.
yeah i agree kimura,i dont think he’s going to be able to do much to hurt gegard let alone get him in a position where he can carry on striking at him.wonder why he is doing it,to send a message or he was so devestated by his cut from ufc and loss to babalu that he is so pumped in the match to win he goes abit over the top.
Totally agreed Kimura. This is by far one of the best 205 matchups outside of the ufc and i cant wait. I do think that he is young and wants to explore different things and gain more experience, but I know that he is unfortunatley managed by the infamous M1 Global. Unless he decides to change management I doubt we will see him in the ufc anytime soon which is very unfortunate. But hopefully one day he will realize unlike fedor that the best talent is in the ufc and thats where he needs to be because I honestly see him walking through sokoudju and these two are the top two non ufc 205ers out there.
Mousassi by stoppage
yeah it was the M-1 Global thing with Gegard…he’s a talent and I look forward 2 the day he locks up with 205er’s in the UFC. Sokudju shouldn’t be that much of a threat to him.
