Nogueira was the top paid fighter
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has pulled out of his UFC 108 main event fight against Cain Velasquez because of a persistent staph infection. Dana White, according to Sherdog.com, announced that “Big Nog” will not be part of the main event, but stopped short of announcing a replacement. Velasquez-Nogueira was the third main event to be assigned to UFC 108. The New Years’ show, set to take place January 2, is creeping closer and closer, leaving limited time for training camps for whomever is announced as a replacement.
According to MMAWeekly.com, Nogueira’s manager Ed Soares stated, “Yeah, Rodrigo’s got a pretty bad case of staph. There is no way that he could be prepared in time to face a fighter the caliber of Cain Velasquez.”
Though Nogueira is on antibiotics, even if the medicine is completely effective he would not have adequate time to train, and may not be able to train at 100 percent.

This card is cursed. This was gonna be Cain’s coming out party but whooa, stop…another staph, damn!!! Someone’s about to get fired ( the cleaning crew at Nog’s gym)…this can’t bode well for recruiting potential fighters there. who the hell is gonna fill this sopt, there needs to be a big fight here…i don’t see it. GSP-Hardy…is Geroges ready? Will this fight sell…true Geroges can hold down a card by himself but he doesn’t have a marquee opponant in this fight.
cota i think hardy would sell big,he is a great smack talker and may well try and take gsp’s head off.which will make for an exciting fight.it’s the only fight i see unless tito beats forrest and put him against chuck liddell.
