RANDY COUTURE DEF BRANDON VERA VIA UNANIMOUS DECISION (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

what a night, watched it live.great fights.hardy vs gsp.hardy staring him out,he is ready for that title shot.no main event for ufc 108,this could fill that slot now with nog and cain not fighting.nog needs to clean those mats, twice in a year he’s had staph.
Thoughts on last night are Randy was a smart but was it a coming out for Brandon Vera? I think so…he looked good on his feet and was impressive with his take down defense. That could have been ugly if Randy took him down against the cage. Is Randy ready for the best of the UFC’s 205lb’ers??? I’m not convinced…Dan Hardy vs. GSP…i think Joe Rogan said it best with “I think it woiuld be better to lose!!!”( the winner getting a shot a the welterweight champ) Come back soon Georges!!! Ross looked sharp…155′ers watch out!
I’m with you Cota, except I’m going to go a bit farther and say the decision should have been Vera’s. The first round was close because of the completely uneventful clinch-work against the cage, but Vera took it with the combo he put on Randy in the beginning, while Randy didn’t even throw a punch that round let alone land one. I thought that rounds two and three were pretty clearly Vera’s. Randy got a weak takedown and Vera got right up, and Brandon nailed him with kicks and knees. It wasn’t the most amazing display ever, but it should have been Vera’s fight. I knew the judges would give it to Randy though, no suprise there.
Hardy impressed me, he had Swick afraid of him right from the first punch he threw. He was a rock that Swick basically broke himself against. Is he ready for GSP? Tat’s obviously a whole new story. Sure, you can say “oh, Hardy has heavy hands, that’s Georges’ kryptonite, but Georges is probably quicker and that’s where Hardy’s weakness seems to be. Georges’ jab will frustrate Hardy, and at the jab distance he will throw kicks all over Outlaw and explode into the takedown whenever he wants.
I think ur right my friend! Randy Couture is “Captian America” and then UFC needed him to win for them more than Randy needed to win for himself…He’s marketable, loved and adored by ALL. Vera will not go anywhere but up from this…will he break? who knows, stay tuned…
Hardy will have a game plan to KO Georges…ok…what do U think a DANGEROUS striker like Thiago Alves was trying to do. Bottom line is this…the only welterweight that can beat Georges is Georges! Serra was the onlyiest mistake he’s made as the new fighter after his submission loss to Matt Hughes in Hughes-GSP 1…As much as I wanna see my fighter challenged…i don’t see it here and I don’t see him on the roster right now…who can beat him at welterweight. Fitch is the best welterweight not named Georges St. Pierre and he was dismantled! NO direspect, Fitch os a Bad boy…a favorite of mine to root for when not fighting Georges but he left little to evcen learn from…Alves got beat up by 3/4 GSP…Koscheck was beat at his own game when he was said to be the best wrestler in MMA…Hughes, don’t go there, AGAIN,…Swick, even those who thought he was finally there, potential had been met!…nope…he looked mediocre atg best against Hardy who was impressive but he should serve little in the ways of a threat to GSP’s dominance. Jake Sheilds may be intriguing for second but his game is on the ground and that’s not happening. For all that smack talk against GSP’s striking…see if you can run BJ’s interview finally admitting that he got his ass handed to him, he was beat to the punch, or shall I say, Jab. GSP’s jab is a deadly weapon leading to his ground game but he’s a hell of a striker and that’s not good for anyone considering his dominant ground and pound and intelligence used to folloow thru on his game plan…somebody point something out to make me believe different here…
