Donald Cerrone plans on fighting at 145 after his fight with Ratcliff.
Donald Cerrone doesn’t like being on the sidelines too long.
In fact, after he faces Ed Ratcliff at WEC 45, he already has a plan in mind.
“I’m going to call out Jose Aldo and drop down to 145,” Cerrone told MMAMadness.com’s Hector Castro on Tuesday’s episode of The Ground & Pound. “I’m really looking forward to that. I’m not running away from the 155 lb. weight class. I’m going to stay at 155 but just also going to fight at 145.”
Cerrone (10-2-1) said the move wouldn’t be permanent, rather he wants to take interesting fights in the featherweight class.
“I’m not going to go down to 145 forever,” he said. “I’m just going to go down and dabble in there. I’d like to go Jose Aldo, Mike Brown would be a fun fight, Urijah would be a fun fight.
“Anyone at 145, I will fight. The only person I won’t fight is Leonard Garcia, who is my best friend and roommate. So I can’t take that fight but besides that… Fair game”
Cerrone admitted he has been walking around at 149-150 pounds, meaning he could make the limit without any issue. He credits the constant scheduling of fights has helped him maintain his weight a level that he could make it into the featherweight division.
“I’ve been fighting so frequently my weight is way down,” Cerrone said. “As long as I can keep my weight down. (Fighting at 145) shouldn’t be a problem at all.”

I feel the same way Boo. Jose Aldo has proven that he brings the pain like no one else at 145. People thought Mike Brown was the man, and look what happened. Aldo crushed him like I crush a beercan after I shotgun it. I was impressed with Cowboy early on in the WEC, but since his fight with Rob McCollough, he hasn’t impresed me all that much. He was good in the Ben Henderson fight, but not great. He can take punishment, but can he take punishment like the kind Aldo dishes out at the speed of light? Cowboy is too slow, and leaves his chin out there wayy to much. He’s askin for a major fucking beatdown. I remember somebody not that long ago calling Jose Aldo the 145-pound Shogun, and I agree.
I’ll I gotta say is he better pack a lunch and call for a ride home cause he won’t be in shape to drive…under the influence of GYAKB…getting your ass kicked BAD!!!
Man he leaves that chin out there like Jay Leno, and WHEN he does not IF, he will be on his back looking up at the light’s with Aldo looking down saying “Back to 155 son….go on….off you go I’m the fucking king round her BIATCH!!!!”
Aldo is the 145’s answer to Shogun or and early day’s Wand,he’s fucking brutal…..ask Brown…ask 2 knee’s Swanson and all those people who he has made look amateurs.
Personally I think the UFC and WEC merging is the best thing to happen to the lighter divisions because to be honest…..Torres,Aldo,Faber,Brown,Henderson,Cerrone. Where else has a talent pool that rich to call on? I know for a fact that if Dana wascall any of those guys and say “Hey,come fight the likes of Edgar,Guida,Florian,Sanchez and co!” All those guys would be queueing round the corner of McDonalds and KFC to gain those 10 or 15lbs to do so!!!!!
So Cowboys calling out Varner and Aldo??? Doesn’t matter who he fights, they’ll both beat him. But one problem,Henderson’s gonna beat Varner??? Where does that leave him after Aldo leaves him looking up at the lights?
Boo, the Varner-Henderson fight will be interesting. Henderson might win if Varner comes in all rusty, but if Varner can stuff takedowns, he has some nasty hands.
Anyway, this is what I have to say about Cowboy. He’s a reallymgood lightweight fighter, he put a clinic on Radcliffe obviously. The lightweight division right now is a much deeper division worldwide than featherweight. The talent-level necessary to fight at 155 right now is still drastically different than 145. 145 has only been a great division since like 2004. Look at Manny Gamburyan, Leonard Garcia, and Jens Pulver. Gamburyan and Garcia couldn’t handle 155 because they couldn’t hack it on a technical level. Gamburyan got beat up all the time, and Garcia’s hands are horrible. Jens Pulver couldn’t compete with the new generation of lightweights and once he dropped down he wass winning fights. If Cerrone drops to 145, he’s top ten in that division in one or two fights, mark my words.
