To avoid counter programming in Japan, Dream, Sengoku and K-1 have teamed up for a over-the-top end of the year show. The best of each organization’s roster will be competing on the New Year’s Eve event. Most recently, a fight between Melvin Manhoef (23-6-1) and Kazuo Misaki (22-9-2) has been added to the packed card. Manhoef is a fighter who always delivers, 22 of his 23 wins are via (T)KO and have been competing in mixed martial arts for fourteen years. In his lengthy career Manhoef has fought some of the top talent in the sport: Fabio Silva, Evangelista Santos, and Kazushi Sakaruba among them. Misaki has wins over Kazuhiro Nakamura, Dan Henderson, Denis Kang and many others.
The bout is scheduled to be the nineth of 17 currently in place for the card. As of December 26, the card is as follows:
- Masato vs. Andy Souwer (K-1)
- Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida (MMA)
- Melvin Manhoef vs. Kazuo Misaki (MMA)
- Shinya Aoki vs. Mizuto Hirota (MMA)
- Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kazunori Yokota (MMA)
- Masanori Kanehara vs. Norofumi “Kid” Yamamoto (MMA)
- Akihiro Gono vs. Hayato “Mach” Sakurai (MMA)
- Hiroshi Izumi vs. Katsuyori Shibata (MMA)
- Marlon Sandro vs. Hideo Tokoro (MMA)
- Michihiro Omigawa vs. Hiroyuki Takaya (MMA)
- Kazuyuki Fujita vs. Alistair Overeem (MMA)

Wow! Seventeen fights on one card. Obviously the Japanese audiences love this sport.
Saw that Kazuyuki Fujita, famous for rocking Fedor Emelianenko in their Pride fight back in 2003, will face Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem as part of this extravaganza. Fujita is now 39 years old, and looking at his record, has apparently gone 2-4 in his last six fights. Perhaps this will be a prelude to Overeem returning to the USA to defend his Strikeforce title…
Lots of Japanese stars I’d really like to see on this card, including Aoki, Gono, Kid Yamamoto, and the first MMA fight of Olympic Judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii. Have to see if I can’t track some of these fights down on line…
wow what a card,i dont have hd net.does anyone know where i can watch this live?
Try mmahacks.com guys, it’s a little sketchy sometimes and not exactly the best quality, but it’s free. Also heard Overeemed is fighting in may for strikforce.
Read some quotes from Bas Boon, Overeem’s manager, saying that he will fight in the US in 2010. Boon said the UFC has not penetrated Europe at all, has no distribution there, and that Overeem has done better business there with K-1 than he could with the UFC, making more money and more fans.
Sounds to me like they are picking some softer fights for Overeem in Japan as well, as Fujita does not represent near the danger for Overeem that Fedor Emelianenko does here in the US. Fedor will fight in April, rumor has it that it might even be Dan Henderson, so a May date for Overeem will be with someone else, if it materializes. Ready to see Overeem contest the Strikeforce belt, or surrender it to a more willing and active champion.
Can’t wait for Kid Yamamoto to get back to his winning ways and finally put Masanori Kanehara pin his place. No offense to Kanehara, but he’s title reign is a joke, the joke is Sengoku’s rule/judging system, and unfortunately a good figher like Kanehara is the punchline.
Mu Shin, I’m afraid to say I don’t think Overeem is going to be in America anytime soon. I’ve been saying it for a while about Overeem, but now even the rest of Golden Glory is suspect too, which I guess shouldn’t be suprised. http://www.headkicklegend.com/
read the first feature article there, now I don’t necessarily take a guy like Zabit Samedov at his word, but what he says makes a lot of sense.
Thanks K-fan. I read the article, and having seen the sequential photos of Overeem posted all over the ‘net, I do suspect that he has taken the chemical path to added mass and strength. It is not impossible that he did it without help, but Overeem’s physique as it appears now has all the tell-tale signs, the massive trapezius development, the thickness in the arms and chest that were nowhere to be seen three years ago, let alone tipping the scales about fifty pounds heavier
As we saw here in the States with Marian Jones and what became known as the Balco Labs case, there can be illicit chemists that get ahead of the testing protocols, and manufacture “designer” steroids that didn’t seem to be detectable by the protocols available at that time. Those people got caught because someone ratted them out, and sent a sample to a testing lab, or who knows how much longer that could have gone on, or if similar “designer” drugs are out there today.
I’m a guitar player, not a doctor or bio-chemist, so I don’t really know, but having been a bodybuilding fan and weight lifter for many years, I know people say tests can be beaten, but if that were true, why do so many athletes get caught? Big money NFL and MLB players can probably afford expensive doctors and drugs to avoid detection, but at this point MMA fighters aren’t in that league financially, if those protocols even exist to pass a test when you’re dirty. I know for cycling in Europe, it’s now all blood based testing, which is pretty much unbeatable (for steroids, not necessarily HGh), and if state athletic commissions here in the US really want to know if athletes are juicing, they will have to absorb the expense of blood based testing as opposed to urine testing.
If Overeem vacates his SF title and does not appear in the States, I guess we’ll know why… Thanks again K-fan for the info.
No problem Mu Shin, I play a little guitar myself, but I’m mainly a saxophone and keyboard player. And you’re only too right about the gain in Overeem’s muscle mass. 30 to 50 poundss in 2 or 3 years? Come on. I mean it’s really no suprise, especially coming from a guy who is accusing the guys who have beaten him.
As for Bas Boon trash-talking the UFC…I think we know the truth of that matter. UFC 99 proved that MMA and the UFC is getting pretty damn popular over there. I mean, I wou;dn’t be shocked if K1 is more popular in mainland Europe at this point in time, kickboxing has been a mainstay over there for a while now. However, MMA is getting more popular worldwide every day. The growing number of tough, young fighters from Europe proves that…Martin Kampmann, Marius Zaromkis, Goran Reljic, Jorgen Kruth, and many more.
Can’t wait for this whole card!!!! Supreme via destruction…
Supreme will destroy Fujita obviously haha I like Fujita but I’m afraid he’s woefully overmatched
you never know guys, fujita can go and he can take some but i dont think anyone will be impressed with a overeem win as that is what is expected.
gotta say Daley, i’m not so much impressed with what Overeem did so much as I am shocked at the violence and brutality hahaha…I definately feared for Fujita’s life haha.
Awful stoppage in the Misaki/Manhoef fight, Manhoef dropped him with a huge hook, but that doesn’t mean it’s over. Misaki was wide awake, and just because Manhoef could easily have finished that fight with a few more punches doesn’t mean he would have. We saw him do the same thing to Paulo Filho and Filho still armbarred him…terrible refereeing.
Same thing with the Minowa/Sokoudjou fight, I think it’s awesome and hilarious that Minowa dropped Sokoudjou like that at the last minute, but Sokodjou seemed coherent and the stoppage was definately a bit premature. still laughing at the outcome of this “Superhulk tournament,” and the fact that Sokoudjou managed to get himself clobbered by a guy who hasn’t had a memorable knockdown in his entire career that I can think of haha…am I mistaken?
seeing fujita it was sad,he looked old and dare i day it scared,he isnt what he used to be.again overeem impressed nobody even though that was a sick ko.that was brutal.
No real surprise as Overeem overwhelmed Fujita. Can’t fault the Muy Thai knees, but perhaps Overeem would like to have some real competition next time. Fujita is a warrior and has seen his day, but I agree Daley, he didn ‘t look like he really wanted to be there.
Didn’t watch the Manhoef fight yet, but I thought the same thing about the Mousasi/Goodridge fight. Goodridge was not going to win that one, but he wasn’t hurt at all, taking punches on his arms from the bottom position, and they stopped it. Yes, a fighter has to improve his position and intelligently defend himself, but this is supposed to be mixed martial arts. Goodridge was obviously outclassed, but at least let the guy go down with dignity, like a fighter.
Did you guys see the Aoki fight? Hirota would not submit, would not tap, and paid the price with a broken arm. Now THAT is mixed martial arts.
Watching these matches in front of 45,000 fans, which was awesome, really made me appreciate the cage. I think the ring does not compliment MMA,the way the octagon does. The fence presents a whole other tactical and strategic obstacle for fighters to overcome, and also forces the action in a way the ring doesn’t. One man’s opinion…
mu shin i watched the goodride fight and it does look like he is taking them on the arms but 1 or 2 must have got in because his face was all sauced up.putting old timers like fujita and goodridge in is fun to watch now and again (legend vs up and cumers) but japan really milk it,royce gracie and sakuraba failed to make an appearance for once but on a massive show like dynamite i dont want to see a has been sakuraba, gracie, goodridge, fujita you know,im suprised don frye wasnt on there aswell.a legend vs legend match would go down well, could you imagine a tank abbott vs goodridge, ken shamrock vs frye 2 but not mousasi one of the best at the moment vs a guy who he would would have beat in his prime anyway let alone like 50yr old now and overeem was suppose to fight arlovski on that card then they changed it to a grandad not been in the gym fujita, they really should have put matches on that match the hype of the event but it was still good even though a couple of match tweeking would have made it a 10/10 event instead of a 7/10 event.
A buddy of mine just told me that the ref of the Misaki/Manhoef fight actually fought Misaki in his pro debut and lost. I don’t know how he found this out, but I’m looking into it, cause that’s some bullshit right there if it’s true haha.
that is some crap if it is true.herb dean has had his ass whupped a few times in matches, wonder what he would do if he reffed a guys match.

Daley…i got this is in my email a few days ago. MMAhacks is cool too.
K-1 is more popular at this point in mainstream Europe…Bas needs to shut up and just provide the color. I can’t stand when someone has to trash talk another organization. I knew that I was really making waves in the DJ community years back, when I heard a few BIGGER companies talking about me. I don’t like Dana White but he’s a sh-roooddd buisnessman and so he will continue to push the world scene with the UFC. I really wanna see more of K-1 in 2010. happy New Year guys!!!
Happy new years everyone! Haven’t had a chance to watch this event yet, but I’m definetly gonna make a point to. Sounds like it a good card. Not sure if you guys have heard yet, but Gomi signed with the ufc! Let’s see how well he does, anticipating all the possible match ups for him in the ufc!
thanks j cota.well bj penn has frankie edgar, maynard and gomi as competition for the belt now,not as competative as the other divisions but at least he has some challengers and ken flo rebounded and looked impressive, maybe a better gameplan nextime but that demolition of sanchez has to scare the lw division.i think gsp has the hardest division at the moment and he is doing a great job keeping that belt.
No problem D…
I agree with the welterweight division. It’s actually a very tough division;
Koscheck
Hughes
Fitch
Alves
Serra
All these guys could walk over and call the shots in Strikeforce…
GSP has dominated all of the above and should be able to stop Hardy within the first 2-3 rounds. Fitch vs. Alves II is happening at UFC 111 now in March. This is quickly becoming an early vote for card of the year ( first half at least)
Gomi is an exciting signing for me because I haven’t seen a whole lot of him at all. BJ needs to get a fight from someone, good luck Gomi.
Hopefully Gomi does well in the UFC. He’s always been one of my favorites, he throws down every time. There are some seemingly bad match-ups for him in the UFC, but he’s got the hands to KO anybody, no joke. BJ would beat him soundly again, but he is the man no doubt. Bj Penn, talent-wise, is the greatest lightweight fighter in the world. However, look at the Gomi. If you go by which guy has beaten more top lightweights in his career, you have to go with Takanori Gomi as the greatest lightweight of all time so far…akthough BJ will most assuredly surpass him, but for now Gomi has that title. He was the clear top lightweight at two separate times of his career, while BJ was either still at welterweight beating Matt Hughes, or running around the world taking fghts against Renzo Gracie and Lyoto Machida, and Gomi was smashing dudes in PRIDE’s lightweight division.
I feel like 2010 is gonna be a great fight year…
we could have a new Welterweight Champion too, GSP may be out after this fight with Hardy. He’s seriously considering going for broke with his dream of becoming a wrestler for Canada and represent in the 2012 Olympics, We will probably have a new heavyweight Champ and could be void of ever seeing Brock Lesnar fight again…also what the hell is Anderson Silva gonna do? 205 championship run??? Middleweight bore-fest and continued dominance??? I wish we had our forums back…we should start our own Facebook page!!!
I stayed up drinking all night and watched Dynamite and it delivered… I honestly believe Supreme Overeem is the future of MMA.. His transformation from skinny kick boxer to all around smashing machine is unbelievable… He’s a scary guy and Brock and Fedor better watch out… You heard it here first… Watch this… Once again I come through with the best Highlights and this blows all my other out the water…. (I didnt make it but I found it so it’s mine : )
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nxXbCz1SAM&feature=player_embedded
Oh and don’t give me well he’s on steroids speech… WTF cares if he shoots horse roids? We are fight fans not Olympic Gymnastics fans hahahaha and I don’t care what drugs they do!!!!! Oh and we definitely need our forum back… if not like JC suggested we should make a group on facebook and discuss there…
you are right there redcoat, overeem’s striking is crisp and the muscle and power he has generated is like the fucking hulk.he is a 1 man wrecking crew and he has the fastest guillotine ive ever seen and once it’s on it stays on.i would like to see overeem fight junior dos santos.ive said for the past month overeem could come over and maybe win the ufc belt.that was a good card stacked even though i wanted overeem to fight arlovski and mousasi given a big fight but still interesting and good.how about ufc 110 australia, what i mindblowin card that shit is,reljic vs cb dollaway and bisping vs wand are fights im really looking forward too and an interesting fight in stevenson vs sortiropolous
