MMAMADNESS.com has confirmed the UFC has a verbal agreement from both Phil Baroni and Marcus Davis to compete on the March 27th card in New Jersey. No contracts have been signed, though both men have made the verbal commitment. Marcus Davis is coming off a two-fight losing streak against Dan Hardy and Ben Saunders, respectively. Phil Baroni made his UFC comeback at UFC 106 against Amir Sadollah, where he lost via unanimous decision. Though Davis recently signed a four-fight extention with the UFC, a win could ensure he is not cut before that contract expires. A win against Davis may secure the long-term contract Baroni has been vying for (his fight at UFC 106 was rumored to be a one-fight contract).
UFC 111 is to be headlined by George St-Pierre defending the welter weight title against British sensation Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy. Also on the card is Frank Mir and Shane Carwin; rumored to be for an interim heavy weight belt. Thiago Alves and Ricardo Almeida are two others rumored to be on the card, though no confirmation has been released and an no opponent for either man has been announced.
Calls to confirm a signed contract have been placed to both the Baroni and Davis camp. Keep checking MMAMADNESS.com for updates.

This will be a great fight to watch. Should be action packed…I pick Davis to KO Baroni. He’s lucky 2 be in the UFC. He’s entertaining and fun to watch, even when he loses.
i like this, the hard hitting boxers fighting each other,if they box its anyones game well i think davises in a standup but whoever mixes it up with other than there hands will taste victory.good fight put on,baroni goes to take heads off but i keep seeing him blowing his load and gassing in fights which really has been his downfall.it’s hard to watch because i root for baroni and you see him starting good then his strikes get slower and you can see the exausthen on his face.come on baroni, hammer house deserve to get back on the map in mma.
he’s cool…but it’s MMA and he’s never been an MMA fighter. Brawler+Boxer= an exciting fight for maybe 2 rounds with Baroni…U said it all D, he’s an entertaining fighter but no cardio and no true ground game is always a bad thing if he doesn’t KO his opponant in the 1st round.
i watched scott jansen vs baroni and baroni showed good ground game in that cota,we will have to see what he is like on the ground with davis,i am interested to see if he can do something on the ground.
Baroni is just6 one tough-ass dude. Davis will take it though, he’s a much more technical fighter, especially when it comes to straight up boxing.Baroni has shown some decent grappling chopsmin the past, but I would have to go with Davis there too. I was pissed when Davis lost to Saunders, he needs to get that rematch and beat Saunders’ ass, then whip Hardy too he won that fight in my opinion.
UFC 111 is lining up to be an awesome event. Marcus Davis has lost his last two, but he’s a tough well rounded fighter and should put on a good showing. Baroni has the brawler reputation and will always have a puncher’s chance, especially early.
I’m sure most would agree that Dan Hardy will be hard pressed to challenge George St. Pierre for the title, but we all must also acknowledge that anything can happen in the ring. We were all sure Matt Serra had no chance as well, but GSP has been virtually bullet proof since that loss, so I expect a long night, as long as it lasts, for Hardy.
Most excited about Mir/Carwin. Mir is a long time favorite, who continues to grow and improve his skill set. By improving his size and strength subsequent to the brutal beating by Lesnar, I think Frank enhances his chances against a very game Shane Carwin. Carwin has proven so tough in his previous matches, highlighted by the near-knockout loss that turned into a highlight reel knockout win against Gonzaga, that we don’t really have a big picture of his ground skills, which could be where he and Mir end up settling this contest. I like both of these guys a lot, and think this should be a really exciting match.
Also a big fan of Thiago Alves, even after the loss to GSP. Almeida is a world class grappler, so this one reads like a classic striker/grappler contest. Thiago is a strong kid, has many knockouts to his credit, and while he may not be a black belt in BJJ, can definitely handle himself on the mat, so Almeida’s mission is to avoid the early knockout, and see if he can take Alves into oxygen debt and submission. Another excellent matchup that should stimulate real MMA fans.
Yeah you said it right with Davis putting on exciting scraps even when he loses,I think thats purely why he’s still under contract as because if he didn’t have that then he’d have been cut a long time ago.
I’ve heard that Alves and Almeida aren’t fighting each other???
Carwin’s gonna put Mir’s lights out,PERIOD!!!
UFC113 Cote vs Franklin anyone heard that?
Boo- saw a betting line on another site that had Alves against Almeida, for whatever that’s worth…
I’ve read a couple of sites that opponents haven’t been names for either yet??
UFC111 will be 100% Marcus! Without a doubt, the better fighter…boxing or holds, his martial arts background along with boxing, I believe, will insure his win. Big spirit and even bigger heart!
