WILSON GOUVEIA VS. ALAN BELCHER

A phenomenal wrestler who honed his craft at Purdue University, welterweight Jon Fitch (fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) heads into UFC 107 riding back-to-back victories over Akihiro Gono and Paulo Thiago. The 31-year-old hopes to extend that streak to three and climb one step closer to the world title when he meets ground-and-pound specialist Mike Pierce (fighting out of Vancouver, Wash.) at FedExForum. Boasting a six-fight winning streak, including a 1-0 mark in the UFC, Pierce (9-2) looks to impose his will on Fitch (23-3, 1 NC) and prove that he belongs among the welterweight elite. The 29-year-old believes a win over Fitch on Dec. 12 will launch him into immediate contention in the stacked 170-pound division.
Two of the lightweight division’s most exciting fighters lock horns when Clay Guida (fighting out of Johnsburg, Ill.) meets Kenny Florian (fighting out of Brookline, Mass.) at UFC 107. After competing in a torrid “Fight of the Year” candidate against Diego Sanchez in June, the 28-year-old Guida (25-7) returns to the Octagon(tm) with his sights set on derailing “Ken-Flo.” Having trained for this fight under the tutelage of renowned trainer Greg Jackson in New Mexico, Guida believes he has refined all of the tools needed to best his seasoned opponent. A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who also possesses some of the most dangerous elbow strikes in all of MMA, Florian (13-4) has shown a knack for finishing fights in his 12-bout UFC career. The 33-year-old has won six out of his last seven fights, including five by way of stoppage.
Heavy-handed striker Paul Buentello (fighting out of San Jose, Calif.) returns to the UFC for the first time since 2006 to take on 21-year-old rising star Stefan Struve (fighting out of Beverwijk, the Netherlands) in heavyweight action. Owning a 3-1 mark with three knockouts inside the Octagon, Buentello (25-10) looks to reinsert himself in the title picture with a win over his 6′11″ opponent. The task may be easier said than done for “The Headhunter.” An outstanding kickboxer and submission artist, Struve (22-3) has submitted his last two opponents and is on a meteoric rise in the division. Known for his smooth transitions and slick grappling, “Skyscraper” plans to spoil Buentello’s homecoming and take a giant leap toward his goal of one day wearing UFC gold.
A terrific Muay Thai striker with an advanced ground game, Alan Belcher (fighting out of Biloxi, Miss.) is an exciting fighter with a “go-for-broke” style of fighting. The 25-year-old, nicknamed “The Talent,” is hungry to make a statement in the middleweight division and believes a win over gifted grappler Wilson Gouveia (fighting out of Coconut Creek, Fla.) will propel him into pivotal bouts in 2010. Equally determined to end the year with a bang is the American Top Team product Gouveia (12-6). A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who trains alongside the likes of Luiz Cane and Thiago Alves, the 31-year-old has earned 11 of his 12 professional wins by stoppage. He’ll look for another dominant performance when he clashes with Belcher (13-5) on Dec. 12.
A purple belt in jiu jitsu under BJ Penn, Shane Nelson (fighting out of Hilo, Hawaii) has steadily become one of the lightweight division’s most promising prospects. With wins in eight out of his last nine bouts, the 26-year-old Nelson (13-4) faces a stiff test in Memphis when he battles Matt Wiman (fighting out of Dallas, Texas). Known for his aggressive, gritty performances inside the Octagon, “Handsome” seeks his fifth win in the organization against the Hawaiian. Having already fought some of the best fighters in the lightweight class, Wiman (10-5) thinks his experience will play a key role in the bout with Nelson.
Riding the momentum of a first round stoppage victory over Amir Sadollah in August, Johny Hendricks (fighting out of Las Vegas, Nev.) looks to remain unbeaten when he touches gloves with newcomer Ricardo Funch (training out of Ludlow, Mass.) in welterweight action. A four-time Division I All-American wrestler at Oklahoma State University, Hendricks (6-0) boasts heavy hands and powerful takedowns. He’ll look to impose his will on the undefeated Funch in Tennessee. Holding a record of 7-0, “Golden Boy” Funch trains alongside UFC heavyweight Gabriel Gonzaga and the 29-year-old, who originally hails from Lencois-Bahia, Brazil, believes he’ll become an impact player at 170 pounds with a win over Hendricks later this month.
Training under the guidance of former UFC middleweight champion Murilo Bustamante, submission ace Rousimar Palhares (fighting out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) is one of most feared grapplers in the sport. With five of his last six wins coming by way of submission, “Toquinho” will put his grounds skills on display when he battles fellow Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt Lucio Linhares (fighting out of Helsinki, Finland). A winner of five consecutive fights, Linhares (13-4) has a solid grappling game, but doesn’t mind slugging it out on the feet. With nine stoppage victories in his career, the fighter nicknamed “The Spartan” is ready to test his mettle in the UFC when he battles Palhares (18-2) in a 185-pound contest.
A contestant on season nine of The Ultimate Fighter(r), Damarques Johnson (fighting out of Salt Lake City, Utah) believes he can one day rule the welterweight division. Johnson (14-7), who is trained by UFC vet Jeremy Horn, continues his quest for the title on Dec. 12 when he takes on heavy-handed Edgar Garcia (fighting out of Yuma, Ariz.). A close friend and training partner of lightweight star Efrain Escudero, Garcia (7-1) owns five wins by way of knockout. Also a state wrestling champion in his native Arizona, the 25-year-old looks to demonstrate his versatility when he battles Johnson inside the Octagon.
Having only gone the distance once in his 11-fight career, Kevin Burns (fighting out of Des Moines, Iowa) is a relentless competitor with a strong desire to finish fights. The Iowan, who has ended all eight of his wins before the final bell, seeks another impressive victory when he battles TJ Grant (fighting out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada) at UFC 107. Equally dominant in ending fights, the 25-year-old Canadian Grant (14-3) owns 12 submission victories and one knockout win since launching a professional career in 2006. He seeks his 15th victory when he takes on Burns (8-3) in “The Volunteer State.”

Yo dirty, feel free to step in. It’s not a big deal to me to be honest. I just did it for shits n giggles. I’m pretty sure last time you were ahead of me, so go for it. I’ll try for the # 1 spot. You and kimura heads up, I take winner at 108.
WOW! What a card! Come on Daley! Tell me strikeforce puts on anything near that!! No way! So who wins?
OK…I got the winner at 109, What a fight card. Balls out performance by the UFC fighters. Florian looked sharp but not enough to beat baby J. Baby J…he’s in a whole different ball park as was obvious before the Sanchez challenge…this just solidifies it. He’s great and that’s that! I can say that he needs to stay at 155, forget about Georges and 170. You have nothing to prove to the true MMA/UFC fans out here. You are above the crowd my brother…you are the best 155′er in the UNIVERSE.
What about Florian vs. Sanchez II ? Cisco, what can I say that you haven’t already said…Daley is a hard core fight fan and I’m just one of the guys out here who like having a second outlet for good MMA fights to watch. Great fight card, great fights guys…my hat’s off!!!
p.s. Mir, shut up and fight, you looked great and I hope U get a shot at Brock…i think can beat him, I did the last time but u weren’t exactly a smart fighter that fight…
Yeah JC I see what you’re saying, having another organization that provides us with more mma is never a bad thing!(except in elite xc’s case) My disagreement with dirty is whether or not strikefarts is up there with the ufc. I don’t think so, he does. I have yet to see a strikefarce card that had me wincing and jumpin back like last nights card! I don’t get worked up for a strikefarce, not the whole card at least.
Speaking of last nights card! I actually felt bad for Diego, you could actually all hope draining away from his face round by round. I actually thought he was gonna make it at least. That had to be the worst cut ever!! That shit was nasty! Damarques impressed as did Garcia even if he did lose. Rookie mistake falling into the triangle like that. I thought damarques was on his way out. Struve and Buentello, man, that was a war!! Wasn’t too impressed with Fitch this time around. Mir just straight whooped some ass! Made Kongo look like rookie, but I still think Lesnar will kick is ass if comes back unaffected by his surgery. Great card for the most part!
Crazy fights last night, damn. Cisco, I don’t think it was so much a rookie mistake what Garcua did, but the fact that he got clipped with that upkick that rocked him just enough for Johnson to lock it up. Crazy submission by DeMarques Johnson. Another masterful ass-whooping by BJ Penn.
So I retain the belt, and it’ between me and Cisco at 108. I’m pissed I decided to go with Kongo though haha, Mir smashed him. He pulled the Randleman/Couture fake the shot and switch to the overhand and blasted him. The way he locked up that guillotine was pretty sick too.
Diego was beat after the first round. It came down to what BJ said…has he fought a champion, cause I have. Diego had never been hit like that before, pinpointed and then smashed. Like Cisco said it…you could see the hope gone from his face, no spirit. It’s ok tho, he was facing the best that 155 will ever see. Hell if it wasn’t for Georges, hemight be at 170 too. no shame in your game homie, Diego will be a force, just not against BJ. I was very impressed with BJ…even when he looked like he might be breathing a bit harder, after the 3rd, i think…he came out and proved me wrong. He moved the same way the whole fight and it was masterful. WHO THE HELL IS GONNA FIGHT THIS GUY NEXT. BJ, GEORGES AND ANDERSON ALL have a stranglehold on their perspective weight divisions. Only at 205 and Heavyweight is there a question now.
i fell asleep last night at the first fight between struve and buentello.starts at 3am over here.just watched the replay,bj hurt sanchez early on and while he may have still tried to look mean he wasnt feeling it thats for sure.diego’s striking against penn was horrible,he was throwing the punches over bj’s head or at the sides.overhand punches would have been more affective aswell as leg kicks constant,i heard sanchez corner saying take him down, that guy needs sacking right away.b.j was good as was mir.clay really needs to not dive in in future fights, everyone knows he’s coming straight forward and are going to leave a fist straight down the pipe like kenny did, damn the follow up punch he threw was fast and was the one that put him away.i would like to see gray maynard fight b.j penn,he may have the power and control not to mention the short stocky frame so bj cant sub him,you may say well sherk didnt but sherk stood and tried to box him and when bj hit him 100 times with his jab he was done.cota you are right i am a hardcore fan but i wouldnt use that term,i just like to watch any sort of fighting and alot of guys from strikeforce entertain me,they have robbie lawler, manheof, sheilds, fedor, overeem, rogers, werdum, mousasi who i really like to watch,i dont like watching hendo though,he bores me for some reason, granted he can hit hard and a very gritty bull type fighter but im sick of seeing him.
well kimura you are the champion.
I heard there’s talk of someone trying to take my belt? There’s only one Champion around here and we all know who he is… Scrap for second best if it makes you feel better… Holla at the King when you are ready… hahaha
I know you guys expected me to say something crazy.. Truth is I’m happy and I got a good girl now… BUT at the same time to be the Champion you have to beat the Champion… So what’s up? Madness is my home and I’ll never forget what I helped build… I put my shit on the track like race horses…
Haha, good to see you back Red you’re back. We had a draw last time, this time i’m doing it for real. I wanted the rematch anyway, it’ll be like BJ vs Sean Sherk, who’s the real champ…just be sure to call me the Prodigy haha.
My friend I welcome the challenge…. It is good to be back!!!!! I’ll give you a gentlemens coup de grace…. hahaha
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UaBtjc_AaCQ
Ok, so where does leave everyone else? Lemme see, kimura and red at 108 for the belt? Then dirty and the winner at 109? Then me and the winner of 109 go heads up at 110? Or is it me n dirty for the #1 spot at 108? Welcome back by the way Red.
That sounds good… and thanks man…
Yo Cisco, you and Dirty for #1 contender at 108 sounds good if that’s cool with Dirty. Red it’ll be good to beat you and e the undisputed champ.
Yo, did anybody else notice Clay Guida burb loud as hell after the doctors checked his cut? Tell me you guys saw that too…
HE’S BACK…THE “TITO ORTIZ” OF MMAMAdness…ladies and gentlemen, “RRRREEEEDDDDCCCOOOOOAAAATTTT!!!” Welcome back F@cke#! Ur my boy RED!!!
Yeah that shit was hilarious!! Just outta nowhere “brrraaapppp”! How could anyone miss that! That shits funny JC! The Tito Ortiz of madness!! Oh man!!
Hahaha I saw it,he did it in another of his fights before aswell….MONSTER BURP!!!!!
it’s true!!!
the burp made me me pause and then I laughed my ass off!!!
I’ve never liked BJ, but he is a great fighter, expecially at 155. Diego is my guy, but he did get that ass whooped. Gotta give him credit though, his chin is amazing and he had the heart to stick in there and keep fighting. That was one of the worst cuts I’ve seen in a long time. If it wasn’t for the stoppage he would have taken BJ to decission and lost. These weight classes are on lock down by the guys who hold the belts, I don’t see anyone being able to take any of them out to soon.
I agree with JTSparks…I’ve said the same thing for a long time. The only division that is open right now is heavyweight…some would argue that it’s solely because Brock is injured and who knows if he will ever fight again????
Off the subject…anyone know what the status with Roger Huerta is. I know his UFC contract is up but I haven’t heard anything else after his last fight.
im up for that at 108.i say right now im picking silva to ko rashad.that ufc 107 had some cracking fights on.really had some good tearup’s,palharez won as i predicted,he is a future title holder,he’s coming up quietly.welcome back redcoat, been a while.i know the site isnt as good as once was with the changes but we still manage to talk the subjects we want sometimes.forums back would really spice this site up as we can seperate the things we want to talk about.sometimes i feel like a chat about k-1 or boxing, maybe a new signing for a company and i cant get to do it.
and welcome back sparks,i know you came back about 3 weeks ago but it was a while before that.
Yeah haha… BJ is the man.. I know a lot of you guys hated on him but I stayed don’t with BJ since day one! He can’t be touched at LW. I think after he beats Tyson Griffin and Frankie Edgar he should move up 170 and fight 1-2 top contenders at 170 and if he beats then fight GSP again! War Baby Jay! and thanks JC!!!!! The gangs all back now. hahaha
Here’s my 108 picks. Just throwing them out there: Evans, both Lauzon brothers, Yvel, Matyushenko, Munoz, Daley, Pyle, Kampmann, Sherk, and Oliveira….
I don’t see how any of you guys can say 205 is locked down right now. Lyoto Machida lost to Shogun. Machida is a paper champion, and it’s going to be proven in the rematch.
Anyway, yeah I laughed my ass off when I saw Clay burp haha. Red. Hell yead Daley, I know exactly what you mean, this no forums thing is pretty lame. Tell me you saw the K1 Grand Prix final last week. Or was it two weeks ago? Schilt whipped some ass man, I’m impressed. He tore through Bonjasky. Also, I was impressed witht the way Hari basically handled Overeem. I didn’t think Ubereem wa going to get up after that first knockdown, dammmnnnnn.
Cota, I heard Roger Huerta might end up in Strikeforce. He’s really fun to watch, I’d love to see him fight Josh Thomson or Gilbert Melendez, and I’d love to see him smash KJ Noons. I’m always down to watch Noons catch a beating.
I personally think 205 is on lockdown. Showgun had a good game plan last time and it threw Lyoto off. I don’t see how Showgun could possibly change anything up in the next fight, he’ll come with the same game plan and this time Lyoto will be ready for it, not to mention he’ll be looking to win without a doubt this time, don’t think he took to well to fans responses last time. Lyoto also mentioned weeks before the fight and on the countdown how destracted he’s been since winning the belt, he’s a big name now and getting to much attention and distraction. I think he thought he could easily win even with the distraction, but Showgun came in with a great game plan and it threw Lyoto off course. Lyoto is a fucking warrior, his life is fighting and winning, he’s gonna be looking to make a big statement the next fight. After that I don’t see anyone else that could take the belt away.
Well Jtizzle, I’m thinking that he also will adjust his game plan. Maybe he noticed some things in the first fight and will capitalize on that. I wouldn’t count him out. As for after that should he fail, there are plenty of guys in the 205 division. They might not be be ready right away, but give em a few fights and they’ll be ready. I don’t tsee it being on lock down either though.
As for the forums situation, I feel like Diego after the third round, all hope is fading fast. I was told by Hector that they were working on it, but damn it’s been a long time. Everything else got taken care of and it’s they’re content with it the way it is. Does it really take that long? Here’s my Xmas wish!!! The forums back!!!! I like shootin the shit everyone here, debating our points and voicing our opinions with everyone here. Everyone seems to have a pretty eduacted opinion on mma, not like a lot of other sites where it’s a bunch of childish jibbering. Bring the forums back Hector, it’s taking away from the allure madness.
I’m sure they’ll both adjust their plans a bit, I don’t count Showgun out at all, expecially after the first fight he impressed me a lot. Most people thought Machida was gonna roll through him. But I feel like Showgun was basically trying to keep a distance and eat away at Machida, trying to win by points. I feel that Anderson and Machida are the best fighters out there right now and I think Machida’s gonna come out blazzing and try to win without any doubt. I personally feel that Machida is a better smarter fighter and I think he’ll figure Showgun out next time. After that, there is a lot of good fighters at 205, but stylistically I don’t see anyone else being a good match for Machida.
The thing is, Shogun figured Machida out, not the other way around. He won first of all, but e could have finished Lyoto in the fourth or fifth round had he thrown more punches once Machida could barely move. Machida had better adjust his gameplan if he wants to win a second time, but its bad news for him right now. He’s going to be hard pressed to be able to check all those powerful leg kicks Shogun can throw. However, to say that a fighter will “figure his opponent out” is an empty statement. Will he get his timing down? Unlikely, as no one has ever outmaneuvred Shogun through timing. Will he simply check more leg kicks? Possibly, but even checking kicks like that is extremely punishing. Will he counter the kicks with a right hand? I’d be willing to bet that Machida will look to catch a kick and score a knockdown at ome point…ala Anderon Silva-James Irvin. However, this probably won’t go o well because 1. Shogun is on another level of Muay Thai skill than 2. Shogun’s kicks in that fight were ridiculously fast, Machida will be hard-pressed with that agenda.
On Huerta…good looking out…that’s one of my Warriors I love to wATCH.
Forums…I’ll believe it when I see em’ back…I do miss being able to start our own discussions!
As for 205…i don’t think it’s on Lockdown in the sense that we could see a new champion.
Lyoto…I’m a fan, have been from the get and I’ve tooken some shit for it too. Shogun proved me DEAD WRONG…he’s great!
Strikeforce…they’re coming up if they sign some lightweights that are on par with Huerta for action and pace, straight up balls and heart with my boy Roger, just should have kept his mouth shut…Latino blood!!! We’re hot heads!!!
i didnt see it,i used to watch them on setanta sports now thats gone it is quite dead for martial arts t.v apart from ufc, trust me you sort of just have to lump ufc over here and like it.i watched schilts put aerts away with nasty kicks to the ribs, schilt is the man in k-1.i dont want to watch any others as it will come out on dvd with it being a g.p and i will buy it.i did watch all the qualifiying matches overeem vs aerts and manheof vs bonjesky.badr ko’d semmy 6 months ago,i watched that on setanta,i was shocked,2 overhand rights put him away.reminded me of pulver vs lewis.
Whats happening Red,welcome back mate!!! I’m wanting in on this itle challenge when the times right hahaha, well heres my picks any way!

Hazelett
J. Lauzon
dos Santos
Sherk
Kampmann
C. Miller
Matyushenko
Jensen
Ellenberger
Oliviera
I’ll tell you which fighters have the most unswayed delusional fans ever!!!! (myself included)… BJ Penn, GSP, Machida, Fedor and Brock… Here’s my list of fighters that could beat Machida on any given night…
1. Shogun (Already won and got raped of dignity by the judges)
2. Diet Nog
3. Couture
4. Rampage
5. Mousasi
I said COULD not WILL every time.. I don’t know how many people can still be Machida fans after Shogun whipped his ass like he did…
obviously the judges red,haha.
they must drinkmachida wee also.
rua would be a good champion to have,he will bring violence for 5 rounds straight.redcoat anything ive said bad about b.j i was wrong,he handled buisness again, every defence has been dominant to the extent of 1-sided beatdowns.
Haha dirty that shits hilarious! They drink Mapeeda his new energy drink! I think a lot of people would prefer Rua over Mypeeda as his style would lend itself to a more exciting fight. Although, I gotta admit before the Rua fight Macheata was seemingly turning the tide in his favor by finshing fights in an exciting manner. I was definetly impressed, but then that happened and it’s back to where it was for me. He needs somethin dramatic to gain respect back.
As for BJ, that marinovich has made a HUGE difference! A BJ Penn thy doesn’t gas! Oh man! Now what bitches? Can’t wait til the 3rd and 4th rounds to turn it up no mo! Ask Diego! Which actually sucked to watch cause I actually like Diego. Watchin him just drain of all hope was painful! Can’t believe that douche kept telling him to take BJ down!! Moron.
Hahaha Cisco, you wanna get anymore nicknames in there???! It’s gotta be Edgar vs BJ now!? Any takers?
Trust me Boo I tried! Haha! I think there gonna throw Maynard at him, at this point I don’t think it matters who they throw at him though. He’s gonna roll through the division now, I mean really, who’s left that has chance against BJ at 155?I really thought Diego would give problems, but I was dead wrong.
