Fedor Vladimirovich Emelianenko was born on September 28th, 1976. He began taking Judo classes when he was 10 years old, starting in the junior club of Alexander Nevskii and was coached by Vasiliy Ivanovich Gavrilov. After one year he was accepted into a sports class created by coach Vladimir Mixailovich Voronov.

At 21 years of age, he completed the criteria to be considered a Master of Sports in both Sambo and Judo. After a year of intense workouts, he was named to the Russian Olympic team and became a master in the international class of Sambo.

In 1998, Fedor won a Russian Class A Judo tournament, earning him the distinction of the top Russian Judo champion under the age of 23. He went on to win the bronze medal in the Russian Sambo Championships held in Kaliningrad, and later took home the silver in the Armed Forces category, which spans all weight classes.

In 1999, as a member of team Russia, Emelianenko won international Sambo and Judo Class A tournaments in Moscow, Sofia and Bulgaria. In the European championship, team Russia took first place as Fedor earned the distinction of master in the international class of Judo.

In 2000, Fedor began studying different striking techniques under the direction of Alexander Vacilivich Michkov in the Golden Gloves.

In 2001, he won the title of World Champion in the free fights, heavyweight category for “Rings” in Tokyo, Japan. In the same year, he became absolute champion of the world.

In 2002, Fedor became a member of PRIDE, the most prestigious mixed martial arts organization in existence. He became the champion of Russia in sambo won the following sambo championships:

- May 2002, (Greece), Champion of the world in the highest category (+100kg)

- October 2002 (Panama), Absolute world champion

- October 2005 (Czech Republic), Champion of the world in the highest category (+100kg)

He was admitted into the state university of Belgograd. Currently, he is a student in his fourth year, studying physical behaving. Since 2002, he has worked as athlete-coach in the Alexander Nevskii health club, “OEMK”.

He has won PRIDE championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006, and is considered the strongest fighter in the world.

In 2005, he was given a medal for “Achievements for the Home Country,” and was named the Highest Achievement in the field of fighting at the Russian ceremony, “50 Years - 50 Gorgeous Achievements.” In 2005, he received the name “Deserved master in the sport of Russia.”
