Benson Henderson unified the WEC lightweight titles after defeating Jamie Varner in the third round of their championship fight. Former WEC featherweight champs Urijah Faber and Mike Brown were also victorious. The win secured Faber’s shot at featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo.

Donald Cerrone already has a plan after his WEC 45 fight with Ed Ratcliff. Cerrone told MMA Madness’ Hector Castro that he plans on dropping down to 145 pounds for a possible bout with Jose Aldo.

World Extreme Cagefighting(r) announced today that the long-awaited lightweight title unification bout between reigning champion Jamie Varner and interim champion Ben “Smooth” Henderson will take place on Sunday, Jan. 10 at ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif. In addition to this explosive championship clash, WEC also confirmed the return of former featherweight champion “The California Kid” Urijah Faber, who will be facing top-ranked contender Raphael Assuncao in his hometown of Sacramento.

Benson Henderson went to San Antonio on a business trip. He was set on taking care of business by winning the interim lightweight championship verses Donald Cerrone at WEC 43 which would lead to a title shot with WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner.
