Big Nog Contracts Staph, Out of UFC 108
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira has pulled out of his UFC 108 main event fight against Cain Velasquez because of a persistant staph infection. Dana White, according to Sherdog.com, announced that “Big Nog” will not be part of the main event, but stopped short of announcing a replacement. Velasquez-Nogueira was the third main event to be assinged to UFC 108. The event, set to take place January 2, is creeping closer and closer, leaving limited time for training camps for whomever is announced as a replacement.
Anderson Silva Will Not Defend Title at UFC 108
Anderson Silva will not defend his title against Vitor Belfort at UFC 108. The champ has not fully recovered from elbow surgery, and manager Ed Soares says that he will not be healthy enough to fight on January 2.

Ed Soares recently told MMA Junkie that Anderson Silva’s proposed title fight with Vitor Belfort is up in the air, as Silva’s camp is waiting to receive doctor’s clearance for him to begin training. Soares told the Web site that Silva had elbow surgery to remove pieces of bone that were lodged in the elbow.
