UFC 109 Main Card Finalized
In 1998, two of the United States’ greatest amateur wrestlers – Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman – were scheduled to meet in a relatively new proving ground called the Ultimate Fighting Championship. That mixed martial arts bout at UFC 17 never happened due to injury, but on Saturday, February 6th, nearly 12 years and six UFC championships later, Couture and Coleman finally square off at UFC 109: Relentless, for a colossal meeting of Hall of Famers over a decade in the making.
UFC 106 Finalizes New Co-Main Events: Koscheck vs. Johnson, Ortiz vs. Griffin II
In April of 2006, Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin engaged in an unforgettable three round battle that left fans demanding a rematch between two of the best light heavyweights on the planet. On Saturday, November 21st, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Ortiz and Griffin will finally meet again, and this time it will be as the explosive main event of UFC 106.
Koscheck: Fighting January 11, 2010
Josh Koscheck hasn’t been one to care who he fights or when. Koscheck announced through his Twitter account that he is fighting Mike Pierce at UFN 20 on Jan. 11, 2010.
Trigg Undergoes Successful Surgery
The Twitter-verse has been awfully quiet without the presence of Frank Trigg, but there was a good reason. Trigg underwent a successful knee surgery, MMA Junkie is reporting. The recovery time is unknown, but Trigg is still targeting an early 2010 fight for a return.
UFC Planning to Make Australian Debut
The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that the UFC is planning a February show in Australia’s Acer Arena in Sydney’s Olympic Center. No date has been set for the event.
Matt Serra to Fight in February
Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Serra will return to the octagon in February of 2010. While no opponent has been officially named, Frank Trigg is reported to be one of the leading candidates.
Trigg Won’t Be Cut, Gets Another Chance
Despite rumors that he might be cut, Frank Trigg’s career will continue. MMA Junkie is reporting that the UFC has no plans to cut the welterweight, despite UFC president Dana White alluding that it might happen.
All 26 Fighters from UFC 103 Suspended
Medical suspensions have been handed by from UFC 103, and all fighters were suspended for at least seven days. MMA Junkie is reporting that Mirko Cro Cop is suspended indefinitely and will need clearance from a doctor to return to the Octagon.
Trigg’s Future Uncertain
Frank Trigg might be on the UFC’s chopping block, and if he is cut, it will mark the end of his career. Trigg announced through his Twitter that he will retire if the UFC releases him.
