The 42nd state to regulate the fastest growing sport in the world will now hold events in Massachusetts.

The long-rumored merger between the WEC and UFC could happen in early 2010. Reports tell that the UFC is adding new weight classes in 2010, which could be a precursor to a merger.

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has removed himself from his previously scheduled UFC 106 title fight versus top contender Shane Carwin as reported by Yahoo’s Kevin Iole.

Earlier this week Maine Governor, John Baldacci, signed the bill allowing the creation of a Mixed Martial Arts Authority of Maine. The authority will be funded, for the most part, by fees to be paid by promoters, fighters and others involved in the production of events. Events and promotions can begin to take place in the Pine Tree State as early as March 2010.

Sources have confirmed to MMA Madness have confirmed that Cub Swanson and John Franchi will be fighting on a WEC 44 card in November.
