Shane Carwin is next in line to challenge Brock Lesnar for UFC title.

Sources close to the event have confirmed to MMAMadness.com that Brock Lesnar will make his first official title defense against Shane Carwin at UFC 106 on November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV.

Shane Carwin had been scheduled to take on AKA fighter Cain Velasquez in October at UFC 104. But the UFC has opted to change course. Velasquez is reportedly uninjured and his management, Zinkin Entertainment, has not heard any news regarding the bout being scratched.

Minnesota MMA confirmed our sources by tweeting the news Wednesday night.

Since we originally posted this report, the UFC and Dana White have confirmed the bout to take place.

UFC 106 takes place November 21 at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas NV.

Here are other rumored matches for the event:

Tito Ortiz vs. Mark Coleman

Jon Fitch vs. Ricardo Almeida

Agreed, should be a great fight.

What I’d like to see is someone actually stand in against Brock, someone like Carwin who is also strong and agile with good striking ability, and test Lesnar’s chin. It will also be great to see these powerful wrestlers go at it on the ground, and see if Shane can manage to move under Lesnar’s ground and pound strategy and apply some grappling manipulation of his own.

I really like both of these guys. I’m definitely a Lesnar fan, and Carwin has shown me a lot, especially in his great match with Gonzaga. May the best man win, and great to see a UFC champion active again so soon after his victory at UFC 100.

Agreed Mu Shin, I personally thought it would have been bad timing to put Velasquez and Carwin against one another. Now, after Lesnar/Carwin, Cain is till potentially in the mix, and the UFC hasn’t wasted one eof their title contention prospects. As for how it may go, I guess we’re not sure about the striking prowess of either man. Sure Carwin KOd Gonzaga, but that’s not saying too much, I mean he recovered greatly, and he obviously hits hard, but Gonzaga has hardly ever been known as an elite kickboxer – excluding the Cro COp fight of course, which would never happen again I think. We’ll see both men get tested in taking strikes, and if Brock can’t bully Shane around, he might actually be in some trouble.

  6. Posted August 20, 2009 at 3:00 am

Besides Gonzaga with his head on straight!!!…Carwin poses the biggest threat, period. I agree with K-fan big time!!! I thought the same…wasted fight and they should let one ( preferably Cain Velasquez) fight another contender or wait it out. Carwin got the big knock on Gonzaga so he deserves a shot and YES!!! It’s a great match-up Of “2 BULLS IN THE CHINA SHOP”…now we see what happens when Brock picks on someone his own size!!!

If Carwin is ready to go five rounds with Lesnar, this should be a crazy fight. I’m not even ure I’d know what to expect. I guess probably a slugfest of huge proportions. I see someone getting KTFO for sure. With these two huge guys, and the power they have, I don’t think it’s gonna go for twenty five minutes. I think it’s a matter of who gets cracked really hard first, because they’re both great wreslters, and neithter of them have much technique in the striking department.

Its no BS…ITS OFFICIAL! and this is definatley a much more exciting fight. Who doesnt wanna see the 2 biggest guys in the ufc throw down. I think they are gonna go toe to toe and theres gonna be a KO. I still think lesnar will end up on top, but hey u never know.

Two titanic forces about to collide! I def agree there will be a KO/TKO.. It’s smart cuz Vasquez/Carwin would of eliminated a potential contender.. this way they can still have two top contenders.. the winner of Vasquez/Rothwell and the winner of Big Nog/ Couture may face off for the #1 contender spot.. HW division is getting interesting..

  29. Posted August 21, 2009 at 1:02 am

Kimurafan, right…I just hadn’t re-checked. I’ve been caught in a rumor before and I hadn’t seen it on another site, ur right, I just saw it on ESPN News. That’s pretty damn big to have it reported there ( which is where it belongs now ). MMA has paid enough dues and generates enough money and interest that it should now share the National stage on ESPN.

It’s also on Shane carwins site also, apperantly it’s a verbal agreement. That’s official enough for me. Lesnar will out wrestle him, if stands and bangs with carwin it’ll be lights out lesnar. Then again lesnar has some power in those paint can he swings around, can’t wait for this one! It’ll answer a lot of ??’s about Lesnar.

    Posted August 21, 2009 at 12:41 pm

Brock’s road to the undisputed title against Mir was not to stand and bang, but to take him down and ground and pound. It will be interesting to see how this match with Carwin unfolds, as Shane may not be as decorated a wrestler as Lesnar, but he matches up better in terms of size and strength than Mir, and certainly knows a thing or two about going to the mat. We know they can both put power into a punch, and we know Carwin has pretty amazing recuperative powers to come back from a potentially fight-ending blow, so maybe we’ll get to see if Brock has a cement jaw to go along with that big jar head…

Lesnar is a much better wrestler than carwin. lesnar also has a naturally bigger frame for 265 lbs, Carwin looks muscle bound and stiff.I think brock will be able to take Carwin down to avoid Carwin’s stand up. Once this fight hits the mat Lesnar’s ground and pound will end Carwin’s night. Carwin doesn’t have the stamina to weather the storm of Brock on the ground. Brock TKO round two.

  37. Posted August 22, 2009 at 11:37 pm

[...] MMA Madness reported a few days ago that super heavyweight Shane Carwin would get a title shot against Brock Lesnar at UFC 106 and now it has been reported other places and officially confirmed that instead of competing against Cain Velasquez at UFC 102 to gain the right as the number one contender, Carwin will now face off for the title against Brock at 106 and Velasquez will  face the winner of that bout. [...]

  38. Posted August 30, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Dude, I hope Carwin kicks Lesnars @ss!! If he doesn’t, I know for a fact Cain Velasquez will!

Sorry to say but Brock is taking this fight too. The only way I see Carwin winning is by KO, but I would hope Brock is smart enough to keep it on the ground. Carwin has no shot on the ground. I do believe this is Brocks tuffest test yet, but the only threat from Carwin I see is standing, he could shock me and KO Brock quick, but I think Brock will have a good game plan keeping Carwin on the ground.

  40. Posted December 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm

The fight was canceled because Brock has a health problems. But Mir and Carwin will go at each other as an undercard for GSP Hardy welterweight match.
